'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Darlington FC have today announced their retained list for next season.

There are 5 players who are departing the club after being told their contracts will not be renewed. These players are:

Joe Kendrick:

Joe joined the club in 2004 after being released from German club 1860 Munich. He started his career with Newcastle United in 2002 however he never broke through into the first team squad. Since coming to Darlington Joe has made 57 appearances with 13 of them coming to the bench. He netted once in a game at Oxford in the 2004/5 season. Joe was a regular feature in the squad after David Duke sustained an injury, however when Duke became fit again Joe had himself sustained an injury and now it seems that he does not fit into David Hodgson's plans

Matty Appleby:

Matty has played for Darlington FC twice in his career which spans from 1990 until now. He started out at Newcastle United as a trainee where he made 29 appearances without finding the net. From there he moved to Darlington on loan before finally signing for the club in 1994 making 102 appearances and netting 11 times. After the failure of the 1996 playoff campaign Appleby moved to Barnsley for 200k where he stayed for 6 years before moving to Oldham in 2002. In 2005 Darlington manager David Hodgson brough Matty back to the club where he has featured sparsely in the first team. He has played 28 games in his second spell at the club but recently he has found himself on the fringe of the first team.

Adrian Webster:

Adrian joined the club in 2004 from Maidstone having played in the lower leagues for the majority of his career. He started off as a trainee with Premiership club Charlton Athletic, from here he moved to Colchester on a free before dropping into lower league with Margate and Maidstone. Since joining Darlington Adrian has played 38 games finding the net only once. However his form when playing was noticed by the New Zealand national coach which has earned him call-ups for his country.

Jonjo Dickman:

Jonjo joined the club in 2005 from neighbours Sunderland after an unsuccessful spell with York City. Jonjo made 48 appearances for the club netting 3 times and is perhaps the surprise inclusion on the released list as he has been playing in the first team nearly all season.

Guy Bates:

Guy joined Darlington in 2006 having not settled in Australia with the Newcastle team out there. He hasnt managed to force himself into the first team at Darlington and therefore manager David Hodgson probably feels that he could use the wages on other players. Guy played only 9 games finding the net once. When he was used nearer the end of the season, he was used in a 3 prong attack on the right hand side which didn't seem to suit his game at all.

Ryan Valentine and Matt Clarke are to hold talks with Darlington manager David Hodgson regarding new contracts so news will be told in due course
